Description

Iowa Western Community College seeks a part-time assistant cheerleading coach who will provide a visible positive presence to promote school spirit at all home athletic events. This position will foster a connection with the squad, the athletic teams, and their visiting families during the season. The assistant coach is responsible for assisting with tryouts, pre-season training, all games, practice and workouts, as well as assisting with events planned by the spirit coordinator and residence life. The assistant coach will be actively traveling and recruiting throughout the year for our 2027-2028 alongside our other assistant coaches. This is a part-time, 12-month staff position with evening and weekend hours occasionally required. This position reports to the Spirit Coordinator/Head Cheer Coach for the Iowa Western cheerleaders.

Job Duties

  • Recruitment
    1. Identify prospective student athletes and establish and maintain appropriate communication.
    2. Conduct effective on-campus visits.
    3. Demonstrate success with respect to qualified prospective student athletes.
  • Organization
    1. Provide effective organization of program and management of time.
    2. Perform a variety of coaching functions at all practices.
    3. Organization and supervision for team travel.
    4. Overseeing Academics and helping manage eligibility 
  • Public Relations
    1. Establishes appropriate rapport with media including reporting scores and team statistics in a timely manner
    2. Management of Program Social Media Accounts
    3. Represents the department and Iowa Western to service clubs, media and alumni groups.
    4. Works with entire athletic department on departmental projects and fundraising.
    5. Assist with providing information needed to produce respective sports guide.
    6. Works collaboratively with the college's radio and TV broadcasting programs.
    7. Works collaboratively with the Reiver's Sports Media Coordinator in regard to sports promotions, events and social media.
    8. Works collaboratively with the SID to update and maintain their respective sports webpage.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    1. Complies with the colleges, ICCAC's and NJCAA's rules and regulations.
    2. Compiles and submits organized and accurate paperwork for eligibility.
    3. Assisting with management of All Travel Functions in regard to recruiting.
    4. Coordinates team travel, accommodations, and meals.
    5. Attends scheduled departmental meetings.
    6. Assist with enforcement of medical and insurance procedures.
    7. Attends coachesâ?? meetings weekly.
    8. Participates in clinics for professional improvement.
    9. Works with and is supportive of other coaches and programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Qualifications

  • Associateâ??s degree or equivalent required.
  • Experience coaching/playing in the sport, college level required.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Have a valid driverâ??s license with a good driving record.
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision
  • Regular, prompt & reliable attendance

Other physical requirements (note):

  • Work is routinely performed in an indoor environment but requires occasional outside environments.
  • Requires prolonged standing, frequent bending, and stooping or stretching. 
  • Also requires lifting and operating soccer equipment. 
  • Working routinely outside in a variety of environmental conditions both on and off the field. 
  • Frequent contact with students. 
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires ability to distinguish letters or symbols. 
  • Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, telephone, faxes, and copiers.
  • Ability to drive company owned or personal vehicle.
